Crew Chief

Crew Chief

Position Description:

Supervises the day-to-day activities of the donor collection team on the bloodmobiles.

Department:

Donor Services

Hours/Shift:

Full-Time . Variable schedule based on donor services operational hours

Education:

High school or equivalent experience.

Licensure:

Class D Driver or eligible; prefer medically related licensure or certification

Experience:

1 year blood donor collections, plus 1 year supervisory experience - additional blood bank production experience considered in lieu of supervisory experience

Essential Functions:

    • Supervises and trains fixed site or Mobile collection and support staff.
    • Coaches and mentors fixed site or mobile staff regarding appropriate adherence to SunCoast's  SOPs, personnel policies and customer service activities.
    • Utilizes Employee Notification system to report and document SOP or policy violations if they occur.
    • Assists with activities related to marketing and public relations, including but not limited to communication with recruitment and communications departments regarding special promotions and distribution of promotional items.
    • Greets and registers donors and patients. 
    • Performs all front desk duties.  Coordinates with physician office staff for collection of products from autologous, directed and therapeutic donors and patients.
    • Determines donor suitability. 
    • Performs phlebotomy for the collection of whole blood units or testing samples.  Operates automated equipment to collect red cell, plasma and platelet products.
    • Provides post-donation care and instructions, including treatment of adverse reactions.
    • Assures proper storage of blood during collection operations and prepares for transport.
    • Performs donor record review and data entry.
    • Performs QC, maintenance, calibration and validation of section equipment.  Reports malfunction or deviation to manager.
    • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies.  Reports inventory levels to manager.
    • Meets established collection goals.
    • Assists with the coordination of fixed site facility maintenance.  Maintains a clean, safe and organized work environment.

Education:

High school or equivalent experience; prefer phlebotomy certification

Licensure:

None; prefer medically related licensure or certification

Experience:

1 year donor phlebotomy required; PLUS 1 year phlebotomy, medical, customer service or other equivalent experience. Completion of phlebotomy training program considered in lieu of phlebotomy experience.

Experience:

EXPERIENCE:   2 years general work experience, prefer medical or manufacturing background, but not required.

CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSURE REQUIRED:  None- Prefer current driver’s license in good standing.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Medium Work:  Walking and/or standing for extended periods of time with occasional sitting. Occasionally exerting between 20-60 lbs. of force to lift or move objects.

Essential Functions:

DUTIES:

  • Receives blood products collected by manual and automated methods.
  • Prepares and labels various blood components.
  • Inspects, labels and ships processed blood components.
  • Quarantines components unsuitable for shipment.
  • Assures that blood components are stored appropriately.
  • Performs QC and maintenance. Reports malfunctions to department director.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of supplies. Reports inventory levels to department director.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Other duties as required to fulfill the organization’s mission and vision.
